5th April, 1931
Good weather. 7.15 a.m. left for Point – took exactly 58 minutes (no lie). Nothing doing all day except 15 sharks, 1 galjoen and a dozen streepjes. Kite worked fairly well. Took out three lines anyway before it started chasing its own tail into the sea – peculiar incident – Harry, Rolf and Japie each got stuck into a shark at about the same time in the same spot. Back at Pimple 7 p.m.

Fine, smooth – fished at Blow Bellows. Nothing biting. Sea good colour.

Wednesday 23rd September, 1942
It rained hard during the night. Leaked a bit in kitchen over the china cupboard. We spent day at hut. Ghillie got bait, but had to go off – so Eric did not fish. Strong SE and rather cold. Miss Mardon and Mrs Cox arrived on horseback and had tea with us. We went for walk to Gap – a bit further on Bay side to get away from cold wind. Saw a baboon at Fourie’s hut this morning.
Monday 4th January, 1943
Strong south easter still blowing. Too rough for fishing but went to streepie pool. Also too rough.

Thursday 14th January, 1943
Arrived before lunch. Mom, Gwen, Patat, Uncle Leonard, and Margret to cook, Boz and 3 other poor dogs. No water in tanks – fontein gives a little. Fished Meiderbank. Man next door caught a haai. No wind, clear sky and beautiful night.
Beautiful day. Went to the Fountain – men fished but caught nothing. Found 2 bales of rubber, one in very good condition.
